(From Our Own Correspondent.) In spite of. the bad weather on King's Birthday a large number of people turned out to witness the opening of the band rotunda. The opening had been decided for the evening, but th* authorities wisely determined to alter this to coincide witih the military demonstration at noon. D Company of tit* Taran&ki Regiment, under Captain Leech, 93rd Company Senior Cadets (Inglewood), under Lieut. Humphrey and Second Lieut. Kenaedy, assembled at the Drill Hall and marched thence to the band rotunda, where the Town Band had already taken its place. The Territorials and Cadets were drawn up oa three sides of a square) and were then inspected by the senior officer present and the deputy Mayor (Councillor Tarplee). After briefly addressing the men on the benefits of military training, both to the individual and to the State, the Deputy Mayor gave an outline of the History of the band rotunda and the cost, etc. He afterwards called upon the Mayoress (Mrs. G. W. Bennett), who formally declared it open. The troop* then came to the present, the band played the National Anthem, Captain Leech called for three cheers for His Majesty, which was heartily responded to, and the companies inarched away and dismissed. The band played several selections, which were thoroughly appreciated.
In the afternoon a football match was played between the Waitara and Inglewood Senior Cadets, resulting is a TrfjL\ lor the home team by 16 pomtt t«
