PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
THE VITAL STRUGGLE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. ' Received 4, 9 p.m. London, June 4. As a result of the primaries Mr. Roosevelt and President Taft are very evenly matched. The vital struggle is about to begin. Mr. Roosevelt's supporters claim that as the primaries have given a majority of Republican votes in the north to Mr. Roosevelt it would be grossly unfair if President Taft secured nomination by control of delegates representing an effete Republican organisation in the Democratic south. President Taft's supporters reply that the northern vote is not so great as Mr. Roosevelt's sensational victories would lead the people to suppose, and claim that there are enough of uninstructed delegates to give President Taft a victory. The Democratic campaign has not reached a vital stage, as Mr. Clark still leads Mr. Wilson by 110 delegates.
