THE WINTER SHOW
NEXT WEEK'S EXHIBITION. BUTTER, CHEESE AND FARM PRODUCTS. All roads will lead to New Plymouth next week, and trains, motor cars, traps, and all kinds of conveyances will bring large numbers of people to attend the Winter Show, which .will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week. The Show, which will be opened by the Governor, Lord Islington, on the Wednesday, will be held m the new King George Coronation Agricultural Hall, on St. Germain's Square. This year is only the third occasion on which the Taranaki Agricultural Society has ventured on tlie project of holding a Winter Show, but so firmly has this feature of the Society's operations been established that entries for next week's exhibition have .been received from all parts of New Zealand, In every section the entries are double those of last year, and in addition the poultry show is be- ' ing held in conjunction with' the Winter ; Show this year. In this section up- j wards of (WO entries have been received, ] and the exhibitors include many of the ) lending fanciers of the Dominion, j The exhibits of cheese and butter will no doubt attract most interest, and the ' entries received indicate keen competi- _ Butter-makers throughout the Dominion have ambitions to wrest the Shaw, Savill and Albion Shipping Co.'s £25 cup, for the best box of factory butter suitable for export, while in the cheese section the principal attraction is the cup (valued at £35), presented by the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., for the best crate containing two full-cream New Zealand cheddar cheese suitable for export. The first-named trophy is now held by the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Co., Dunedin, and it may be expected that while the South Isknd endeavors to retain the honor there will be many competitors desirous of bringing the cup north. The Kaponga Dairy Co., which holds the New Zealand Shipping Company's cup, will also meet with some opposition when it sets out to prove its right to continue to hold the cup. j
Other sections which will interest the farmer and town-dweller alike will be hams and bacon, fruit, garden produce, field roots, home industries, Technical School exhibits, etc. Already tradesmen are busy at the hall making preparations for displays of machinery, implements, and their various goods. On each day of the show special train arrangements will be made to enable people in all parts of Taranaki to come to New Plymouth, and tickets will be available at reduced rates.
