WORKERS' HOMES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Mr. Craigie, M.P., has received word that tenders from four builders have been accepted by the Labor Department for the erection of ten workmen's cottages at Timaru on land purchased for the purpose. AN INGENIOUS THEFT. Timaru, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day John Wm. Sadler, who has been , a licensed carrier for twelve months, pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence on numerous charges of fraud on J. Radeliffe, cabinetmaker, by forging receipts for railway charges paid for Radeliffe, ajid obtaining larger sums than he had actually paid on Radcliffe's behalf. The necessary forms, it was supposed, he had stolen when the clerks' backs were turned. Bail in £2OO was allowed. AN ILLEGAL OPERATION. Auckland, Tuesday. At the Police Court Mrs. Annie Strange pleaded guilty to performing an illegal operation on Florence Wheeler, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
