THE BOY SCOUTS

Badenri°tve^ WV, -,r komed the Ma i' or and City Councillors at a large gathering of citizens this morning. The Mayor extended a cordial welcome. General Baden-Powell referred to the bravery of New Zealanders in the Boer war and thanked New Zealand for its present to him. Speaking of the Scout movement, he said that different discipline was required from that which controlled the old machine-made soldier. They had now to deal with men of intelligence, and they found that by putting a boy on hi« honor, -they were enabled to place reliance on him. THE AUCKLAND DEMONSTRATION. Auckland, Last Night. After the civic reception to General Baden-Powell, a parade was held in the Domain, at which between two and three thousand cadets were present and about four hundred Scouts. Col. Wolfe was in command. When the Governor arrived at the saluting point, accompanied by the Chief Scout, the Boy Scouts received their chief with a Scout '-rally," the cadets standing to attention. After inspection the boys marched past. The! Scouts subsequently gave a display of bridge building, signalling, etc. At the conclusion of the parade they formed Up into three sides of a square, and the boys were addressed by His Excellency and General Baden-Powell. The Genera] later gave a lecture in the Town Hall, subsequently leaving for the south.
A private telegram from Wellington States i"Ut the Boy Scouts who journeyed. to the metropolis to participate in the Baden-Powell review are "all well, happy andi comfortable."
