SIR JOSEPH WARD
POSSIBLE TRANSFER TO AUSTRALIA. ■SEAT IN THE FEDERAL PARLIAMENT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, May 25. Sir Joseph Ward, in an interview before his departure, said he was satisfied that Mr. Fisher was T.vhole-hearted in his desire to effect reciprocity between the Commonwealth and Xew Zealand, Mr. Fisher stating that personally he would go to the extent of freetrade between the two countries.
The Herald states that Sir Joseph. Ward was sounded by Sydney and Melbourne friends whether, if a seat were found, he would contest the next Federal election on the Liberal side. He was assured that the election would not entail any pecuniary sacrifice. The representations, however, were not made on behalf of the Liberal Party or organisations. Sir Joseph Ward did not reply absolutely in the negative, and indicated the possibility of his consenting in certain events, if he was assured that the desire was not limited to any one section.
