WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganui Jockey Club's winter meeting was concluded to-day in beautiful weather. There was a large attendance. The totalisator turnover for tke day amounted to £19,405, making an increase for the meeting over last year of £3333. The following are the details of the racing:— Winter Oats Handicap, of 150 sovs.-; six furlongs.—Allurement, 7.6, 1; Merrv Frank, 7.5, 2; Gladiole, 8.11, 3. St. Toney 8.3, Makara 7.10, Overtime 0.10, Ineuru 6.9, Simple Sam 6.8, and Lady Kilcheran 6.7, also started. Won by a neck. Time, lmin. 16 4-ssee. Balgownie Hack Handicap, of 100 sovs; one mile and a distance.—Draft, 8.1, 1-, Waikehua, 8.0, 2; Bonnie Boy, 9.1, 3. Tiwari 8.6, Manitau 8.0, Master Tupuhi 7.7. Waitoto 7.5, Xebnlons 7.0, and Moirette 7.0, also started. Won by half a length. Time, 2min. I l-ssee. Grandstand Steeplechase, of tIOO sovs.: about two miles and a half.—Hautere, 0.9, 1; Dorando, 10.0, 2; Sir Lethe. 11.5, 3. Compass 10.8, Whakawera 10.6, Glenmore 10.2, and Drudgery 9.10, also started. A splendid finish. Won by a neck. Time, smin. 4 l-ssec. Patea Hack Hurdle Handicap, of 100 sovs.; one mile and five fuilongs.—Bismarck, 9.5, 1; Sphinx, 9.1, 2; Nescot, 9.4, 3. Merrie Lad 11.1. Outlander 10:3, Te Roti 9.13, Doggerbank 9.13, Tepuia 9.12, Nedra 9.6, Canadian 9.0, and Epsom Downs 9.0, also started. Won "by two lengths. Time, 3min. 19 4-ssec. May Hurdle Handicap, of 175 sovs.; about one mile and three-quarters. The Native, 10.8, 1: Stevens, 10.1, 2; Kauroa, 9.0, 3. Farewell Hack Handicap; of 100 sovs.; six furlongs.—Prosper, 7.9. 1; St. Gate, 8.12, 2; Piriwai, 8.7, 3.' Thrave 8.8, Amber and White 8.4, Lady Volga 8.4, Draft 8.1, Royal Simon 8.0, Torpont 7.9, Epsworth 7.7, Eashvind 7.7, Wiwitahi 7.3, and Silver Rose 7.0, also started. Won by a- length. (By Telegraph—Special to the "News.") ; Wanganui, Last Night, j The meeting concluded in splendid weather. ; Khamsin was the onlv withdrawal j from the Winter Oats Handicap. Ma- ■ kara and Merry Frank were best backed, j Makara was first away, but Allurement I quickly assumed the lead. Merry Frank 1 challenged him in the straight, and a j great race home resulted, Allurement j winning by a neck, with Gladioie a poor third, and Makara next. Bonnie Boy was an odds-on favorite for the Balgownie Handicap. Moirette was first awav.' and with Waitoto led along the back. Mnnitau, Bonnie Boy and Draft came through at the home turn. Draft lasting long enough to beat ' the fast-finuhing Waikehua by a neck. The favorite was a good third. The withdrawal of Antarctic, Taiaha and Makura left seven in the Grandstand Steeplechase. Sir Lethe, Dorando, Glenmore and. Hautere were . evenly backed. Drudgery led Sir Lethe at the first jump, but Sir Lethe showed the wav past the stand, Drudgery falling at the fourth fence. Sir Lethe led Glenmore and Dorando along the back and past the stand. Glenmore fell in front of the stand. Dorando closed on Sir Lethe half a mile from home, and Hautere also came fast. Dorando led into the straight, with TTautere close handy. The leader looked all over a winner until the half distance, where Hautere «ame again and won an exciting race by a long neck, with Sir Lethe a poor third, and Compass the only other to finish. Whakaweira was well beaten when he fell at the four furlongs post. j Te Roti, Sphinx and Merrie Lad were well supported in the Hack Hurdle Handicap. Dogger Bank and Te Roti made the pace a cracker for a mile, and then Merrie Lad took the lead and the | field closed up. At the turn Sphinx was looking a winner, but Bismarck, who was nearly a hundred yards in the rear the first time past the'stand, came with a wet sail, and catching Sphinx one hundred yards from the finish won easily. Most of the money was for Euroco and The Native in the May Hurdle Handicap. The last-named led all the way. •winning by several lengths. Sandy Paul shaped well to the home turn, but Golden Loop, who lost six lengths at the start, never got up. The Empire Handicap proved the best ©f good things for Red Lupin, who led from end to end. Khamsin and Red Lupin carried tons of money. Con the Shaughraun was the winner's closest companion all the way. Thrave was best backed in the Farewell Handicap. Piriwai was out first and led to the turn, where St. Gate took command, but failed to withstand Prosper's rush, the latter winning very The starting was excellent throughout the meeting.
