GENERAL TELEGRAMS

BURGLARY AT ELTHAM. By Telegraph—Press Association. Eltham, Friday. Burglars entered the cycle shop and sporting requisites depot of Ira J. Bridger, Bridge street, during the night and stole six double-barrel sporting rifles, two revolvers, a set of boxing gloves, and a quantity of ammunition, of the total value of £SO. They left no trace. The premises were securely locked on the previous night. It is presumed that the front door was opened with a skeleton key, and then closed. The back door, which had been bolted from inside, was found open. NOXIOUS WEEDS. Reefton, Friday. The Inangahua Chamber of Commerce suggests to the Minister the employment of spare labor in clearing blackberries on roads and Crown lands. AN AUCKLAND BURGLARY. Auckland, Friday. An unsuccessful attempt was made last night to break into the safe on the premises of the Waitemata Fruitgrowers' Association iu Port street, by the use of explosives. The constable on duty heard a report, and saw smoke issuing from the upper window. The police searched the building, but there was no trace of the burglars. Presumably they had left and were awaiting the burning of the fuse, which had evidently been used to fire the explosive. The safe was only slightly damaged.
