DRAUGHTS AND CHESS
.CLUB FORMED AT NEW PLYMOUTH. A meeting was held in the Municipal Chambers last evening for the purpose of forming a draughts and chess club, and it was attended by a number of enthusiasts. Mr. H. Willis was voted to the chair. The meeting decided upon the formation of a club, to be known as the Taranaki Draughts and Chess Club. The annual subscription was fixed at 2s Od. Mr. Willis was elected president and secretary, and the following management committee was set up:—Messrs. Eustace. Bruce, Page, Chant and Davy. The committee was instructed to report upon the ' advisableness of holding a North Island tournament at New Plymouth at an early date. It was announced that considerable interest was being shown by players and supporters in the proposed tournament, £2O having already been promised towards the funds to be raised for the purpose. A proposal was also thrown out to the committee that a local tournament should be held, with the object of arousing interest in New Plvmouth.
