TERRITORIALS FRATERNISE
A COMPANY TARANATCI RIFLES. A Company, Taranaki Rifles, held a most enjoyable social gathering in their orderly room last night. Capt Fletcher presided over a good number of Territorials and their friends. In opening the proceedings, Capt. Fletcher stated that it was proposed to hold these social evenings at short intervals during the winter months, with the object of bringing the members of the company together. He recognised that no company could be brought to a state of efficiency unless the officers, non-commissioned officers and men knew and thoroughly understood one another, and the best means of accomplishing this desirable object was to meet together and spend a few hours in song and harmony. Captain Home, Sergeant-Major Bond, and several ex-officers and members of the corps were amongst those present. A very enjoyable evening was spent in song, musical and instrumental items, and story. During the evening Captain Fletcher, on behalf of the company, made a present of a handsome rug to Staff Sergeant-Major Bond, as a slight token of their appreciation of his devotion to his work generally, and the attention he had paid to the instruction of A Company at the recent camp in particular. The company were very successful in the competitions at the camp, and a great deal of the credit for its success was due to the thorough instruction of Sergeant-Major Bond. Mr. Bond, in thanking the company for its token of appreciation, gave its members great credit for the soldiery zeaJ, spirit, energy and determination they had put into all their work at the camp, and their success, he said, was due in a great measure to these factors.
