SPORTING.
The racehorses Sandy Paul, Te Reti, and Simple Sam left by the express train yesterday morning for Wanganui. Beeline has been scratched for the Wanganui Steeplechase. The South Canterbury Jockey Club'a autumn meeting resulted in a profit of £270, but the Government tax is £393, so that the net result is a loss. The club's committee propose to remit to the Racing Conference that the tax should be levied on net profits, not on gross receipts. Mulga Bill vras scratched for the Connolly Handicap at 5 o'clock last night. The New Zealand horse Blakeney has been sold to an Australian buyer. The price is not mentioned.
