DROUGHT IN AUSTRALIA
ALARMING OUTLOOK. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 22, 1.15 p.m. Sydney, May 21. Reports of the drought in the Murray and Murrumbidgee districts are alarming. There has been •no rain in the Murray Valley since the New Year. The position is the worst that has been experienced for a long period. Hand feeding is being extensively resorted to to keep stock alive. One owner has spent over £20,000 on feed and others are sending stock to more favored districts. It is feared that the winter cold will result in great mortality of the emaciated animals, particularly with breeding ewes. The outlook of pastoralists is gloomy.
