WORK AND WAGES.
A UNION FINED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Thursday. The Arbitration Court fined the Builders' and Contractors' and General Laborers' Industrial Union £6O and costs for instigating, inciting, and ordering a strike of members of the union engaged in drainage works in Auckland city. The strike arose over an objection to sub-contracting. In the case against the Waterside Workers' Industrial Union, arising out of the strike of unionists who were discharging the steamer Paparoa, Mr. Justice Sim said it was clear that the union's secretary was aiding and abetting the men. But, as collective action was not expressly authorised by the union, judgment must be for the defendants.
HOME BOATS DELAYED. Timaru, Last Night. Fogs delayed three steamers, including two Home boats, making port yesterday, till 4.30 p.m. The explosive fog signal at Patiti Point kept going usefully. Twenty vans of frozen moat were waiting on the wharf for the Home boats yesterday, and when they came in the wharf hands refused to put it on board till the morning, adhering to the rule of the union that men shall not be engaged after 4 p.m. 'to work steamers.
