REMARKABLE DAIRYING DEVELOPMENTS. Wellington, May 8. The industrial census recently taken included t'he butter and cheese factories of the Dominion, and) as a result some important facts as to the workers and their wages in relation to the output arc available. Since the previous census was taken in 1905 the wages of employees have increased by £40,938, while, at the same time, improved methods have enabled the dairy factory workers (who are only 48 more now than in 1905) to deal with an output valued at £1,837,545 more than that for the year 1905. The home separator system is mostly found in Auckland, where there are 1763 out of «, toital of 2418 recorded for the Dominion. There are 338 factories, an increase of 74 in five years. Of these 88 are individual, 20 partnership or firm, 118 belong to registered companies, and 126 are cooperative. There are 1481 persons employed. The value of the output and tRe wages paid at the factories last year in the various provinces were as follows: Auckland—£96l,72l; £7778. Taranaki— £1,209,243; £44.898. Hawkc's 8ay—£151,687; £9993. Wellington—£7o9,32s; £37,331. Marlborough—' £29,439; £1877. Nelson—£l3,746; £2958. Westland— £21,711; £ 1273. Canterbury—£22l,64l; £9485. 0tag0—£223,900; £14,352. Southland— £279,762; £15,435. The remarkable development of the industry is shown best by the amount of capital invested in dairy factories and machinery. This amounts to £953,922, having almost trebled in a decade.—Hawera Star correspondent.
