MAGISTRATE'S COURT

CIVIL SITTING. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Mr. A. Crooke, S.iVL, gave judgment for the plaintiff, by default, in the following undefended civil cases:— Goldwater Bros. v. Charles 13. Dewar, claim £9 18s, and costs; Auckland Clothing Co. v. Harry Eva, claim £2 9s Bd, and costs lis; M. Wm. Oliver v, Chas. White, claim £3 10s, and costs 12s; John Avery v. Frank Covvell, claim £2 0s 6d, and costs lis. Helen Hughes, for whom Mr. R. C. Hughes appeared, proceeded against A. Ernest Schwinghammer on a judgment summons for the recovery of £3 ss. The debt was for board and lodging. The defendant, who made no appearance, was ordered to pay the amount on or before May 14, or,' in default, undergo four days' imprisonment. After some argument, the Magistrate granted, on the application of the plaintiff's solicitor (Mr. A. R. Standish), a further adjournment of a month in the case in which Lavinia Patterson sued Mary Hill for £3O, representing rent alleged to be due. His Worship also joined the defendant's husband as a codefendant. Mr. A. H. Johnstone appeared for Mrs. Hill.
