STEAMSHIP COMPANIES
MORE STOCK ISSUES. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received 3, 11.5 p.m. London, May 3. Peninsular and Oriental shares are quoted at £33 ss. The new issue caused a relapse. It is suggested that the directors' action in issuing new capital was due to a desire to checkmate operators seeking to control the company. The Royal Mail Steamship Company is issuing 900,000 ordinary stock, chiefly with a view to developments in connection with the opening of the Panama Canal.
