LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL
DISCUSSION BY THE MOA ROAD BOARD. A special meeting of the Moa Road Board was held yesterday for the purpose of appointing a delegate to represent the board at the conference to lie held in New Plymouth, and to appoint delegates to attend the conference to be held in Wellington to discuss the proposed Local Government Bill. There were present: Messrs. A. Corkill, J. A. Bridgeman, A. E. Laurence, A. Chard, and J. Williams. In the unavoidable absence of the chairman, Mr. H. Trimble, Mr. A. Corkill was appointed to the chair. Mr. 11. Trimble was unanimously appointed to represent the board at the conference. It was the chairman's intention to have given an address on the Bill, to which he has given considerable study, but unfortunately he was called away to attend an urgent meeting in connection with the Board of Education, of which he is also chairman. As, however, members were very interested in the Bill, of which very little appears to be generally known, it was resolved to accept the chairman's offer to give the address on Saturday afternoon. Mr. T. E. Hamerton pointed out that this Bill was a matter of material importance, and in order that residents of Inglewood, as well as ratepayers of the Moa district, should have an opportunity of hearing it interpreted, he suggested that the meeting should be held in the Druids' Hall, which he would procure for the afternoon, free of expense to the board.
The offer was Accepted with thanks, and it was resolved that the annual meeting of ratepayers 'of the Moa district, to be held on Saturday next, at 2 p.m., be adjourned to the Druids' Hall, and that the chairman be invited to give his interpretation of the Local Government Bill. ~, „
