THE SADLER CASE

ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurcli, Last Night. Walter Richard Sadler, who was remanded to Ohristchurch from the Magistrate's Court at Wellington, yesterday made his appearance before Mr. IT. W. Bishop, S.M., at the Christchurcli courtr to-day. Owing to the late arrival of the Mararoa, it was not till past twelve o'clock that the prisoner entered the dock, and by that time, expectation, which had been noticeable earlier in the morning, had died down, and the court was unattended by curious spectators. The prisoner, who was carefully attired in a green suit, looked nervous and pale,,, his pallor being accentuated by his shock of disordered brown hair, while his eyes roved uneasily about the court. The charges brought against him were to the effect that on two occasions, viz., on April 26, at Wellington, and on April 8 of the same month, at Kaiapoi, he used a certain instrument for unlawful purposes on a girl. On the application of Chief Detective Bishop he was remanded till Wednesday, May 8. Bail was allowed accused in £l5O and two sureties of £75 each, this being the same bail which he had been allowed by the Wellington court.
