LONDON PRODUCE MARKET. Messrs E. Grifliths and Co.. are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated March 22: Butter.—The miners' strike continues, and is now afleeting nearly all classes of trade. Unemployment seems to be increasing daily. The Government are now passing a Bill for the establishment of a minimum wage, and it is hoped that this will effect a settlement, and that work will he resumed shortly. Danish: Trade lias been on the quiet side, and the quotation lias been reduced three kroners. Siberian: There is no fresh feature here. Supplies are still small, and the demand exceedingly quiet. Australian: The s.s. Omrah, which was due on March Hi, did not dock until March 19, as she went to the Hook of Holland for coal, so that her butters are only just now on the market. The demand is very quiet. The only thing that there is a good demand for is choicest quality of both salted and unsalted, but this is very scarce indeed. The greater portion of the butter is secondary quality, and some lots seem to have been heated very badly. Prices are a little lower than when we last wrote, but considering all the circumstances, and the general depression which surrounds all trades, we think the market, has held up very well, and one can easily see what a strong demand we should have had under normal conditions. New Zealand: There has been no arrival this week, but the s.s. Ruapchu is now due and will bring about 40,000 boxes. Some of the f.o.b. buyers who contracted for butter are already out offering butters to arrive ex this steamer at lower prices, and this is rather having the effect of spoiling the market, but at these prices they are making a big profit. We see no reason at all for any weakness, as really choice quality is in short supply. Cheese.—The trade continues good, and arrivals to date are well cleared. The s.s. Ruapehu is now due, and we think her cargo will sell at full rates.
