AGRICULTURAL EXPERT

NEW APPOINTMENT. A YOUNG AND DISTINGUISHED MAN. Mr. A. Wylle, a distinguished student of the Glasgow University and Agricultural College, has been appointed by the Government as an expert in the Department of Agriculture, to carry out work in connection with the experimental stations. Mr. Wylie, who is only twenty-six years of age, has had a brilliant career. He has had five years' experience in practical fanning, and has attended eight sessions at the Glasgow University and Agricultural College. He is a Bachelor of Science, has earned agricultural national diplomas, and an agricultural and dairying college diploma. In agriculture he was the most distinguished student of his year, and has lectured and conducted experiments and demonstrations under the Irish Department of Agriculture. For a year he was the assistant at the principal Glasgow Agricultural College; and he has had two years of similar work at 'other colleges. Speaking of the appointment to a Times representative last week, the Prime Minister (Hon. T. Mackenzie) said the department's staff was being supplemented by the appointment of Mr. Wylie, who was a very able man. He would bring the department up to date in many,directions in connection with experimental and practical agriculture. "I have instructed him to proceed through Canada and America," he continued, "and to visit some of the most important institutions in those great countries. The experience so gained will be an additional advantage to the Dominion. He can spend a month comfortably in both Canada and the. United States. This appointment is one more step in the direction of adding to <our scientific knowledge and at the same time gives wa further opportunities of instructing our agriculturists in the most modern methods in order that they may obtain the very.utmost from their labor and soil. I have many more important matters in hand. These I hope shortly to deal with for the improvement of our agricultural Ustruction and development."
