The New Zealand Crieket Council last night carried, by 14 to 7, a motion by Poverty Bay deleting sub-section C, rule 7, the effect being to permit a player to play for a district only if resident in the district six months prior to the match. The rules of the Hawkc Shield contests were amended to provide that the shield be held by the winner of a tournament, to be arranged annually, abolishing the system of challenge matches. Mr. Raphael, who has been secretary of the oouncil for thirteen years, expressed a wish to retire, but the council decided to request him to retain .the office.
