Bonnot ran into the kitchen of a neighboring flat, and threatened to shoot the woman there if she raised an alarm. He jumped on to the roof of an outhouse and escaped. A trail of blood enabled the police to trace him for some distance. The populace attempted to lynch Gouzy, who was rescued with difficulty.
