AUCKLAND'S FERRIES

PRIVATE v. PUBLIC CONTROL. By TelflgNpk—Praw Assaciatiwa. Auckland, Wednesday. The Harbor Board carried a resolution to include in the 1912 Empowering BiH a clause giving the board power to acquire and control ferry services at this port. The chairman (Mr. Gunson) explained that the board had recently had considerable trouble with the ferry companies. Though large sums had been expended in their interests the companies were dissatisfied, and experience had led him to conclude that the time had come when the board should acquire permissive legislation to take over the ferries, as the municipalities had to resume the tramways. Mr. Alison, manager of the Devonport Ferry Company, and Mr. Bradney, M.P., strongly opposed the motion, but were the only dissentients.
