RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD
By Ttitfraph—Pr«M A»»o«i*ik>n. Wellington, Wednesday. The Railway Appeal Board dismissed the appeals of G. Benefield, cadet, Wanganui; A. J. McPherson, cadet, Wellington; P. McKeown, clerk, Auckland; and W. H. Olds, clerk, Aramoho.
Dr. McArthur, of the Railway Appeal Board, dismissed the appeals of W. Thompson, stationma«ter at Greytown, against his position on the classification list, on the ground that the general manager had not given the certificate which was the necessary prelude to promotion. Dr. McArthur held that there was no power to compel the general manager to give a certificate. That might mean that classification was not worth the paper it was written on. He might be wrong, but he thought the remedy, if any, lay in getting regulations. The lay members of the board dissentftd, considering the appeal should be sustained. The decisions will be forwarded to the Minister.
