MOUNT SOMERS TRAIN ACCIDENT

LATER DETAILS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Aahburton, Last Night. Later accounts show that the Mount Somers train accident was caused through the breaking of an axle on one of the trucks while the train was running at 'ordinary speed. This caused the truck. to "spread," and threw the nine following waggons off the rails, and tore up the line' for 100 yards. The engine driver noticed the trouble and immediately applied the brake and stopped the train, the engine and carriages regaining on the line. About 60 passengers were on the train, but the jolting was very light, and they did not notice the accident until the train stopped. Dragsl brought them to Ashburton about 1 o'clock, or three and a-half hours late. A relief gang has been despatched to the scene, and repairs are now being effected.
