SWIMMING.
FINANCING THE CHAMPION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. Malcolm Champion, the Auckland swimmer, who arrived here on Wednesday with the intention of departing for London to compete in the English championships and the Olympiad at Stockholm, experienced some difficulty in making satisfactory financial arrangements prior to his departure. He understood when he arrived that Christchurch I would contribute £SO to his expenses, in addition to £SO raised in Auckland. Late last evening Champion received a wire from Mr. Harris, president of the New Zealand Swimming Association, guaranteeing £SO. At midnight he boarded the Athenic, which sailed at an early hour this morning. Champion will be nominated for the Olympic games on receipt by the committee of the Auckland guarantee.
