Mr. J. Cullen took up his new duties as Commissioner of Police to-day. • Mr. L. F. Leech, of Turipoto, Awakino, is at present on a visit to New Plymouth. Nurse Sisley, of the Auckland Hospital, is at present on a visit to her. friends in New Plymouth. Major Bellringi r journeyed to Ilawera by the afternoon yesterday in order to attend the Territorial camp. Inspector Wilson, of Wanganui, is at present in New Plymouth 011 business connected witli the Police Department. A Nelson telegram states, that the Hon. J. Colvin, Minister for Mines, arrived overland from the West Coast last night, and will leave for Wellington today. The Prime Minister, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, has consented to he present at the presentation and social to be given to Mr. W. T. Jennings, at Te Kuiti, on April 20. On May 13 Archbishop Redwood will celebrate his silver jubilee. He was appointed Bishop of Wellington in 1878, and became Archbishop in 1887. His Grace is 73 years of age. The Hon. G. Laurenson, owing to pros- j sure of 'business, will. 1101, reach New Plymouth to-night. He will leave Wellington on Monday by the express, proceed straight to Waitara, to attend the function to Mr. W. T. Jennings. The Hon. Dr. Te Rangihiroa has telegraphed that he will do his best to be present at the social and presentation to be tendered to Mr. W. T. Jennings at Waitara, on Monday night. Special interest would attach to such a visit, as the Native Minister was born in the district. ~ Mr. T. llarle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, left for Auckland last night. The Commissioner has several' conferences to preside ovrr in Auckland, and will proceed to Gisborue on April 27 to hear the carpenters and joiners' dispute. It is probable that disputes will be filed by the tinsmiths and plumbers and the waterside workers, in which case Mr. Giles will return to New Plymouth in about a month's time.
