SEQUEL TO A BURGLARY
A ROBBER GAOLED. By Cable— Press Association —Copyright Received IS. 9.10 p.m. .Sydney, April 18. Alfred Smith Ims been committed for trial for burglary at the residence of Mr. Thomson, Randwick. The accused made a written statement that a man named Wilson induced him to accompany him to Thompson's house. He watched while (liaison roWbeil the house. Balson, whom the police have been unable to trace, was shot in the shoulder. They afterwards divided the proceeds of the robbery. Accused had been a long time out of work, and was desperate, lie expressed sorrow at the trouble he had caused. Smith was committed for trial on a second charge of burglary at Randwick on January 23. When faced with finger-print evidence, Smith admitted the robbery. A Sydney cablegram on February 20 stated 'that there had been several daring burglaries in the city. Mr. Thompson, a resident of Randwick, discovered a man in his .bedroom, and fired two shots as the intruder was escaping. The man called out that he was shot. While Thompson was standing on the "balcony several shots were fired at him, tout none were effective. The burglars escaped with considerable loot.
