IN STRESS OF STORM.
THEY THAT GO DOWN TO THE SEA. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Adelaide, April 15. The Norwegian ship Songvar, which completed loading 40,700 bags of wheat at Port Victoria, sank at her anchorage. It is supposed that she struck an unknown obstacle, which pierced the bottom. The water is level with the deck. The crew escaped. The Norwegian barque Cuba, which left Port Victoria, wheat laden, on March 27, has returned to Adelaide. The vessel encountered a fierce hurricane, and the cargo shifted, causing a dangerous list. The port rail was und'er water, and it was expected the barque would founder. The crew, however, at the height of the hurricane, by almost superhuman efforts, partially righted the cargo, which relieved the danger. It is not believed that the cargo is seriously damaged.
STEAMER'S LUCKY ESCAPE. Brisbane, April 15. The steamer Durham has arrived, her cargo including a large quantity of explosives. A gale during the voyage shifted some iron girders, and the friction, which threatened to fire the magazine, gave those aboard an anxious time, until the officers and some of the crew, working under perilous conditions, removed the danger.
