Mr. Taft, replying to Mr. Roosevelt, stigmatised tliose who are advocating the recall of judges and criticising judges' decisions as insincere demagogues, acting on an insufficient knowledge of the constitution. When they realised that impious hands were likely to be laid on the ark of the covenant all sober-thinking people would protest.

OPPOSING SUFFRAGETTES. TAFT'S HEAVY POLLING. Received 15, 12.40 a.m. New York, April 14. The suffragettes in Chicago are bitterly opposing Mr. Roosevelt's candidature in consequence of his attitude towards women's suffrage, against which he spoke during the Illinois State elections. 'Mr. Roosevelt carried almost twothirds of the 76 delegates in Pennsylvania State. At the Republican Convention Messrs. Woodrow and Wilson secured most of the Democratic support. The total delegates supporting Mr. Taft are 340, and Mr. Roosevelt 190.
