ITRENUI. (Fr< m Our Own Corespondents). At St. Paul's Church on Easter Monday,, the wedding took place of Miss Hutcheson, late teacher at our school, and Mr. A. King, son of Mr. N. J. King, of Stratford. The Rev. Mr. Butler, of Stratford, officiated. The bride was given away by Mr. G. H. Pope. Miss M. Hutcheson was the only bridesmaid, and (Mr. G. Hall, of Stratford, was best man. After the ceremony the wedding •breakfast was held in Mrs. F. C. Rowe's boarding-housie, the tables and room being nicely decorated for the. occasion. The Rev. Mr. Butler, in a happy speech, proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom. The bridegroom suitably ■ replied and speeches were made by Mr. N. J. King (the bridegroom's father) and Mr. G. H. Pope. After the breakfast the young cougle left for Stratford, their future home, by motor car. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a cheque for £SO, and to the bridesmaid a handsome gold brooch.
The school here has been closed for the Easter holidays. It will re-open on Monday. The Urenui Liberals are pleased to see that a Urenui boy Buck) has been allotted a portfolio in the Cabinet, and wish him all success. We received a set-back here last election, but in the event of another one I think it would be reversed.
WAITARA ROAD. The first of a series of euchre parties during the winter months was held in the Huirangi Hall last Wednesday, and wa,s fairly well attended, twelve tables being occupied. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs. S. Sarten, and the gentlemen's by Mr. Amo iPatu. The ladies' prize was a butter dish, and the gentlemen's a moustache cup. Thirteen machines are at a standstill owing to the continued wet weather. , The WaitaTa West Road Board decided, at its last meeting, to interview users of the Waitara road re support towards its upkeep. The owners of threshing mills operating around these districts reside in Waitara, and use this road a good deal. No doubt they might be approached re its upkeep. A week or two ago one machine, with its waggons, made six or seven trips up and down the road to partly thresh one farm. I would also like to draw the attention of the Railway Department to the unsatisfactory siding at the Waitara Road station. The loading or unloading space is only a chain—the loading platform at one end, and a deep open drain at the other end. During the busy season, it is no unusual thing for a person to be unable to load or unload. Only last week I saw a man unloading a truck of coal right up to the stop, having to back his dray between the drain and the line, with only a space to do so of about six feet. The Department could easily alter the present difficulties by shifting' the loading stage at one end further along, or fill in the drain at the other to allow of more room.
Milk is still fairly plentiful at the iWaitara Road factory and Kelly Road creamery. The tests at the factory with thirty-three suppliers ranged last week from 4.3 to 6.1. Feed is still plentiful, and .provision has been made by most farmers for winter feed in the form of hav, mangolds and carrots. From what I can learn, cows are coming into profit early for next season; so, with a good mild winter, prospects for t'he coming season are good, both as regards milk and the price for butter-fat. I believe one firm is willing to contract for ten years at Is Id per lb, so farmers will no doubt look ahead.
