A BETTING FRAUD.

By Telegraph—Preßs Association. Blenheim, Thursday, E. J. Wal?l\. grtver, and ,1. V. Binley, telegraphist, were before the court to-day charged with conspiracy to defraud Ross & Bradshaw and Scott & Martindale of sums of £34 and £SO 10s, on certain betting transactions. It is alleged that Binley arranged- with Walsh to go to Wanganui races, leaving signed telegrams to the firms mentioned containing the names of horses likely to win at Wanganui, the telegrams to be handed in prior to the time of the race. Walsh telegraphed the winners to an address in and Binley watched the Wanganui wires and held back telegrams to the firms, erased the horses' names, and substituted the winning horse. The firms became suspicious and made inquiries. A prosecution resulted.
