DOUBLE DROWNING FATAI.ITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Yesterday. A man whose name is unknown, and two boys named Gordon Brown, aged 14, and Frederick Allen, aged 15, were swept off the groyne at the entrance to /the river while fishing this morning. The man disappeared, and has not since been seen, but Allen was saved by life lines' being thrown, which he grasped. An attempt was made to save Brown, Hewitt Douglas, a dredge hand, jumping into the water and holding on to him for ten minutes, but he had to let go owing to the force of the seas, and the boy was drowned, Douglas with difficulty regaining the pier.

Gisborne, Last Night. A man named Goatley, who has been employed as a wharf laborer, is missing from the Strand Cafe, where he has been staying, and as it is known that he intended going fishing this morning, it is almost certain that he was the unknown victim of the drowning fatality at the groyne. Goatley is supposed to have come from Melbourne, and has been in Gisborne about five weeks.

A MOTOR ACCIDENT. . Timaru, Last Night. In order to avoid a collision with a gig at a street crossing in a quiet part of the town this afternoon, the owner and driver turned' a big motor car too sharply' round the corner, with the result that one of the hind wheels collapsed and the car fell on its side, throwing out the driver and four or five young passengers. The car, nevertheless, hit the gig, but behind, and threw it forward and capsized it. The driver of the car had a collarbone and oil? or more ribs broken. Ilis sister and Miss K. Ardagli, daughter of the proprir-tor of the Commercial Hotel, both severely from concussion and bruises. The other occupants of the car escaped with scratches and bruises. A man in the gig, Mr. P. ißutler, struck the kerb with his head when he fell, and was cut about the fact, and later showed signs of skull fracture. The ambulance men did good service, before the doctors arrived, in removing the patients, three of them to the hospital. A tall hedge at the corner probably had something to do in bringing about the accident.
