DRAUGHTS.
THE XEW ZEALAND CILV.YIPIOX- ' SHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. The Xew Zealand draughts championship tournament will be opened at the Working Men's Club, Wellington, to-morrow. Entries close to-night, and it is expected thoro will be sixteen. Penman, the Australasian champion, is on a holiday visit to Scotland, so the tournament will probably be move open than that of last year. Among the probable competitors are Boreham, ex-Australasian champion, Brodie and Hillikcr, ex-Xew Zealand champions, Erickson and Leggatt, exWellington champions, Bruce (Xew Plymouth), winner of the handicap tournament at last championship meeting, and Calderwood, of Huntly, an exScottish player of note. (Me?: l's. Speight & Co., Dunedin, have given a handsome silver cup to replace that won outright by Penman, and a tjawvass for 'the prize funds has ■been: most successful. This is the first New Zealand championship to be held in Wellington since 1898; The tournament will be played every afternoon and evening. %
