STAR CLUB'S AXXUAL KEPORT. In the annual report of the Star Foot ball Club, to be presented at the annual meeting in the Town Hall on Frida\ night, the committee congratulates members upon the successful season last year; The report goes on to state that at a special general meeting called for the purpose early in the year it was unani mously decided to withdraw the senioi fifteen from the Thursday senior competition and enter a senior team in the Saturday championship. This move undoubtedly weakened the club financially, as the gate receipts from the Saturday games showed a great falling-off compar ed with other years. In the competi tion the senior team played eight matches, winning seven and losing one. thus carrying off the Saturday competi" tion and Mr. Sole's cup. In the playoff with the Thursday champion team Star was defeated by 10 to 5, but the report notes that the ,score does not represent the actual difference between the teams, the game being very even. Tilt junior team won the shield presented by Mr. O'Brien for annual competition between the Star and Tukapa clubs. The committee feels gratified that the club possesses, such capable younger players, as it is from their ranks that the senior teams must eventually be filled. As regards finance, the dub's 'actual working for the year resulted in a loss of Bs. Under the circumstances, the report remarks, this must, be considered highly satisfactory, as the gate receipts for"the season only amounted to CS as against .'o2') for the 11110 season. Tn the opinion of (he committee, the senior fifteen should again contest the Saturday championship, and the first and second junior teams should enter for the Thursday competition. During the season the club was represented in the interprovincial matches by Messrs Dewar. L. Dill and fi. Hawkins, it being the first occasion for many years that more than two Star players gained representative i honors. The prospect for the coming j season is exceedingly bright, even though the club bar. lost, through removal from the (lis!vie!, a. few of its foremost players. Tn conclusion the committee wisli to imI press on m«mbers th' 1 no.cessitv of get- | ting lit <;u!v hi !ho and pulling together right through, as "it, is only by I strict obedience and training that anv I team ;>;ui hope to be succesful."
