CHILDREN'S NARROW ESCAPE. By Telegraph—Prees Association. Hastings, Wednesday. A five-roomed house in Lowell street, owned by J. G. Hill, and occupied by Gavin Allan, union secretary, was destroyed by fire at 9.35 last evening. Owing to the absence of a water supply, the fire brigade were unable to render assistance, and everything was lost. Allan's sons, aged 5 and 8 years, were the only occupants of the house at the time of the outbreak, and they had a narrow escape. A man passing along the adjacent road heard the screams of the children, and ran to the burning house just in time to effect a rescue. Allan, sen., was attending a meeting of the New Zealand Labor Party, and his wife was away nursing in the country. There was £4O insurance on the furniture in the South British, a policy also on the house, but particulars are not available. If your property is not insured, call at or ring up the United Insurance Company, Ltd., Devon street; telephone 198. Webster Bros, district agents. InI surances effected on the most favorable terms.—Advt.
