ENTERTAINMENTS

EMPIRE PICTURES. Despite the weather there was another good attendance at the Empire Palace last night to witness the final screening of "The Diamond Gang," and all the other good films that went to make up the programme. To-night the usual complete change of films will be given, and several attractive features are promised. A dramatic story, with abundant thrills and a display of rare heroism, is the Kalem Company's release, "The Cowboy's Bride." The "big scene," which provides a most thrilling climax to an excellent story, is cleverly worked out, and there is a fine vein of heart interest and'many scenes of great dramatic intensity. The story is of a young' and handsome cowboy, who is in love with the rancher's daughter. The father does not like his daughter's sweetheart, and orders him to keep away. Notwithstanding the difficulties, however, the cowboy is persistent, and the young lovers fix up a plan to,elope. The rancher discovers the plot, but the girl, evading her father, makes bar escape, and joins her lover in a nearby clump of trees, Where he is waiting with two horses. The mishap which the girl's father meets as he is about to start off in pursuit, and the succeeding events which follow put this story quite in a class of its own, which must be seen to be fully realised and appreciated. Other good American dramatis films are "The Fugitive and the Girl," a powerfull A.B. production, "Field Marshal Villiers," and "Cloud and Sunshine." Th« latest "Pathe Gazette" (Home edition) will supply the topical features and m "Nature Studies at the Zoo" quite an education in natural history is promised. Comedy films, when they are good, arc always acceptable, and "A First Aid Flirtation," "How the Story Grew." and "Five Bold Bad Men," are announced by the management as well above the usual standard of merit. This programme will be shown for three nights, and for Saturday's change big feature films are promised.
