GREATER NEW PLYMOUTH.

REJECTED BY ST. ATJBYN. The result of the polling yesterday on the proposal to merge the St. Aubvii Town DistrVt wi'.h '.he New Plymouth Borough was received with surprise, for contrary to general expectation the proposal was rejected by the narrow margin of five votes, the voting being: For 102, against 107. There were six informal votes. Mr. R. Ellis was Returning Of-* fleer, at the town booth, and here there was an overwhelmingmajority in favor, the voting being 54 for, 8 against. At the West End gymnasium, where Mr. R. Sinclair, was deputy, the polling was fairly heavy, 151 recording their rotes, nearly two-thirds of whom voted against the proposal. Of 383 on the roll, only 215 exercised their privilege. The Returning Officer gave the result of the poll very expeditiously, as follows: P. A. I. West End Gymnasium .. 48 90 4 County Chambers.. .. ..,54 8 2 102 107 <5
