SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE
IS THE LOCAL BRANCH DEFUNCT? The local branch of the New Zealand Sp6rts Protection League, which recently made a much-heralded entry into the lists of New Plymouth societies, is to all appearances in a state of coma 'of the most pronounced form. It is now some time since a public meeting, held at New Plymouth, decided to form a local branch. Officers, including a committee, were elected, but the appointment of a secretary was deferred. The society however, appears to have got no "forrader." Indeed, no .mention publicly has (been heard of its doings since that "date, and the secretaryship, which was declined at the meeting by several of those present, is yet to be filled. Members of the committee, or rather some of them, it seems, are equally in the dark, and according to one of their number the committee has not even met since it was elected. In consequence, more than one follower of sport in this town is asking the question as to whether th« League has joined the long procession of the unhonored defunct institutions of New Plymouth. • From what one can gather, the League would be well advised if it bestirred itself, even if onlv to denv theallegation that is going the rounds in certain quarters to the effect that it has simply been created for protecting the! interests of one sport. !
