IRISH SPORTS AT INVERCARGILL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. 1 The Irish athletic sports were held today in good weather, 4000 people being present. There were large fields and good contests resulted, entries being' received from all over the South Island. Following are the results of the big events:— St. Patrick's Sheffield Handicap, 135 yards—F, C. Macalman (Christchurch), 12vds.. 1; J. J. Livesey (Riverton), 12>/ 2 yds., 2; E. J. Bartlett (Invercargill), 13 yds., 3; R. Pedlar (Invercargill), llyds.. 4. Time, 13 3-ssec. 75 yards fly—P. C. MaeCalman (Christchurch) and E. J. Bartlett (Invercargill) dead-heated, with F. Wise (Christchurch) 3. The men decided to run off, when MaeCalman won easily. ■ln the 120 yards hurdles, Gerald Keddell put up a good performance. Owing to want of space the distance was only 'lls yards, which Keddeli, starting from 30 yards behind scratch, covered in 18s?e. dead. The actual distance run by Keddeli was 145 yards, which works out at a shade over 15 1-5 for 120 yards distance. The champion has not had a shoe on since the New Zealand amateur championship, on which occasion he was far from well, and it was with diffidence that he came out to-day.
