HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board was lii'ld y«st«rdav morning, the chairman (Mr." F. C. J. Bellringer) presiding. Other members present were: Messrs ,J. R. Hill, D. McAllum, Maxwell, M. J. Mcßeynolds, J. Brown, Tate, McDonald and G. W. Jirowne. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. In his monthly report, the inspector (Mr. A. 11. Kendall) stated that during tke month lie had visited Opunake, Rahotu, Inglewood, Waitara and Motur'oa. At Opunake he took samples of the water from the new well at the school for analysis, and made a general inspection of other places, while at Rahotu he pointed out to the licensee improvements necessary to the conveniences at the hotel. At Inglewood he had visited premises with the owner and pointed out sanitary improvements necessary. He also inspected plumbing work at" several premises and visited bakers' shops and many of the backyards of the town. At Waitara he had made a general inspection of several towij premises. Three cases of scarlet fever which occurred in one house at Moturoa were immediately taken to the hospital, and the usual precautions taken. One case of scarlet fever also occurred at Fitzrov.

GENERAL. The name of Miss White, of Nelson, was placed on the probationer's list. Increases in salaries of the nursing staff, aggregating £lO4, were made as the result of considerable discussion in committee. During the month 33 patients were admitted to the Hospital, while 28 discharged. There were four deaths at the institution, and at the end of the month the number of patients still remaining was 43. Two of the deaths were owing to heart disease. The number of operations performed was 15. The following tenders for supplies for the ensuing twelve months were accepted:—Groceries, ,T. McNeil; bread, W. Banks; meat. 11. T. Joll; wines and spirits, Goldwater Bros.; wood and coal, Ward and Son. The various monthly reports were read and adopted.
