SURVEYORS' EXAMINATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. . Wellington, Tuesday, The surveyors' examination commenced yesterday, the examining members being Messrs. Strauchan, SurveyorGeneral; Humphries, formerly SurveyorGeneral; Broderick, Chief" Surveyor (Christchurch), Sladden (Wellington), and Harris (Auckland), the last two being the institute's nominees and the others Government nominees. There are twenty-six candidates. COST OF HARBOR BOARD ELECTIONS. Wellington, Tuesday. Commenting on the cost of elections, Mr. Fletcher, chairman of the Harbor Board, yesterday, in making his annual •tatement, said that under recent legislation the constitution of the board had been altered, the number of members had been increased to fourteen, and the elections proved much more costly, the last election costing £979 6s sd, compared with £BS 5s in 1906, £142 15s 5d m 1908, and £157 4s 3d in 1910. In order to lessen the cost the Harbors Conference sent resolutions to the Minister of Marine, suggesting amendments to the Act, and hoping they would be given effect to before next election.
