—— '. , o —— PENALTY OF LARGE FAMILIES AND SMALL COTTAGES. Dublin, February 1. . An extraordinary state of affairs in rural housing accommodation was reveal-' ed at a meeting yesterday of the North Dublin Rural Council, while a memorial was received from the tenants-in Puckstown asking that their cottages be enlarged by the addition of an extra room. At present, they >saicl, the cottages consisted only of two small rooms and a kitchen. The memorial proceeded: "God has sent us large families, as the following will show:—Richard Curtis, fourteen children and wife: J. Sesjrave. ten children and wife; and Thomas'Tyrrel. nine children and wife. "In four cottages there are fiftv-four human beings, who have to sleep in eh'iit rooms. ° "We have been told to bring our case before her Excellency Lady Aberdeen, as we hear she is giving prizes for large families. Please let us know if it is true." The Council passed a resolution asking the Local Government Hoard to sanction the addition of an extra room as requested.
