PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD
■MONTHLY .MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Parihaka Road Board was held at Rahotu on Thursday last, when there were present: Messrs Jas. Young (chairman), Potter, Harvey, Ducker and T. Willcox. The chairman declared Mr. T. Willcox duly elected as a member of the Board, vice Mr. P. Willcox, senr., and he was welcomed to the Board's table by the chairman. ; FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman reported that the contrack on the Stent,Ruakerc and Lower Arawhata roads were completed, awl he recommended progress payments. Thirtyone chains had been formed and metalled on the Pungarehu road at a cost of about £6O. The metalling was now down to Messrs Moffitt and Goodwin's, who gave considerable assistance towards same. The carting dut of the 100 yards of boulders on the Lower Kahu road was now in progress. Unfortunately, tlio weather was not so suitable for river work this season, the river being too much flooded. Forty yards of boulders carted out by G. Vickery had been used to repair the Te Nainu road. He had made a start stripping a pit on the Opua road. He had also purchased a horse and- dray, and asked the Board to procure 4y 2 tons of chaff. Thirty posts and some wire were also required to repair the pound fence. Pipes had been delivered to the following roads:—Lower Waiteaka, for contract, 18 12in; Upper Kahui, 16 24in; Tipoka, 6 18in; Stent, 4 18in. Seventeen 12in pipes had been sold. As the Cape road was in a very bad state he asked the Board if they '.vould allow him one day's crushing with the county crusher while ft was in Keasbery's pit. GENERAL. The statutory resolution was passel .making the special rate for Puniho No. 3 loan: The clerk was authorised to complete lease of pound paddock from Mr. Hawkins, as reported by the chairman, viz.. ft* a rental of £6 per annum, for seven years.
Tlie Board endorsed the foreman's action re purchase of horse and dray. It was decided to apply for the use of of the county crusher for one day to crush boulders for use on the Cape road, conditionally on the settlers carting the stone from the crusher. (Mr. Bowman's application to put a pipe across the Opua road to convey water to his milking plant was granted. The work is to be done to the satisfaction of the foreman. The foreman will inspect the Bayly road and report on Messrs Aylward and Brophy's application. In reply to Mr. Willcox's question as to when the repair work would be done on the Upper Kalmi road, the foreman said a couple of men would be put on the work very shortly. The clerk was authorised to keep road accounts as previously in addition to ward accounts. The clerk will enquire if Mr. Spence will act as ranger for the Opunake end of the Board's district. The Hon. T. Mackenzie wrote that he is making representations to the Department to make a grant to open the Wiremu road right through. Accounts amounting to £306 we're passed for payment. —Opunake Times.
