ST. PATRICK'S DAY
CHRISTCHURCH CITY FATHERS VISIT TIMARU. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru,, Last Night. A special holiday train brought nearly 1000 people from Christchurch to-day. Unfortunately the weather was dull and showery. Special interest was attached to this excursion, as the Mayor and Borough Council invited the Mayor and City Council and city legislators to visit Timaru, and welcomed and entertained them at lunch and showed them round the town and harbor. Christchurch speakers at the luncheon were the Mayor, the Hon. J. Barr, G. J. Russell, W. H. Trigg (Christchurch Press) and J. East (Times). The Mayor of Christchurch suggested the formation of a. Canterbury League to push oni the prpgress of provincial matters. Mr. Russell predicted that under the intense farming, with dairying as its chief side, New Zealand would support 20 millions. Steady rain at Geraldine all the morning caused the postponement of the St. Patrick's Day eports.
