THE SINGER FRAUDS.
TRIAL COMMENCED. By Gable—Press Association—Cepyright. Received March 18, 9.10 p.m. Sydney, March 18. The trial of Brown and Macphersoft, charged with conspiring to defraud the Singer Sewing Machine Company of £12,744, was commenced to-day. The evidence showed that Brown, as general manager, received a salary of £4OOO per annum. His account becomin;largely overdrawn, he adopted a syster, of book-keeping and alteration of landing charges by which his deficit was wiped out, thereby allegedly defrauding the company of the amount named.
