FIRES.
LARGE FIRE AT MILTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Saturday. Early this morning the premises of James Gray and Sons, general grocers, hardware merchants, and drapers, the largest business in Milton, were completely destroyed by fire, which spread to the Commercial Billiard room adjoining, containing three tables. The contents of the Post Office, which is only separated by a narrow right-of-way, were removed. The Post Office and Bank of New Zealand were badly blistered. A heavy gale was blowing. The insurances aggregate £7OOO in the Liverpool and London and Globe and Guardian offices. OUTBREAK- AT PATEA. An unoccupied two-storey building at Patea was completely destroyed by fire at about 4 o'clock on Saturday morning. Adjacent buildings were severely scorched, and many windows cracked by the heat. It is understood that the building was owned by Mr. Hamblyn, but whether it was insured or not is nof known.
