THE NEW LEADER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Saturday. The Hon. J. A. Millar passed through *t-he city this morning on his way to Dunedin. He declined to discuss the persistent rumour that he is, to be the new leader of the Liberal Party. Tauranga, Saturday Night. The following resolution was passed at Tauranga: "That this meeting of snpporters of the Liberal Party tender their hearty congratulations' to Sir Joseph Ward on the splendid and straightforward manner in which he has conducted matters and on obtained during the late express sympathy in the many trying .experiences to which he has lately been subjected; also their extreme regret at his retirement from the leadership of the party and their high appreciation of the great work he has accomplished in the past in tho interests of true Liberalism and the prosperity of our Dominion and their continued confidence in him as tfreir leader, and that at no distant date he will be persuaded to reconsider his decision and again resume the leadership of the party he has led bo well."
