ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION.
IS THE TURKISH WAR RESPONSIBLE? By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. , Rome, March 15. Rumour casts a suspicion of responsibility for the attempted assassination on Turkey, inasmuch as Turkish newspapers lately declared that the war entailed attempts on the lives of King Emanuel, Signor Giolitti, the Premier, and the Marquis San Giuliano, Minister for Foreign Affairs. The rumour is popularly credited, and it is expected that it will force the Italian Government to more vigorous action against Turkey and stiffen its attitude as regards mediation. Dalba was armed with a Browning pistol. He suffered from meningitis when he was young. He has been twice convicted of theft, and once of assaulting his parents. THE ASSAILANT TERROR-STRICKEN. Received March 17, 5.5 p.m. Rome, March IC. Dalba has collapsed and refuses food. He is terror-stricken at the prospect of a life of solitary confinement. Colonel Lang is progressing satisfactorily.
