MANUKAU WRECKED
ASHORE AT THE WAITARA BAR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waitara, Yesterday. The steamer Manukau, of 45 tons, trading between Mokau and Waitara, owned by Messrs. Bayly, Ogle and Co., came to grief last evening off the Waitara bar. She was endeavoring to enter when a heavy squall obscured the beacons and other guides, and getting out of the channel she drifted on to a sand bank. During the night, when there was a heavy sea, she settled down in the sand, with her stern to sea. The vessel opened up at the seaward end, and water entered. The boiler has lifted slightly. It is improbable the boat will get off. I
